VW Golf problem

I own a VW Golf Mk 7 and I have a major problem with water getting into one side of the rear passenger area of the car. The foot rest area on one side has become soaked on several occasions and I cannot determine how the water is getting in - the door seals appear to be fine etc. etc. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the cause?

My car is due to be serviced shortly and I will ask the garage to explore etc. etc. Thanks.

I had a polo once that had the rear windscreen washer line run internally (under the carpet) through the rear passenger side of the car. I noticed a leak and it was a bit foamy and had a familiar scent! The line 'clips' together, made up of shorter pieces of line/ piping and these can become undone quite easily. This usually happens at the nozzle end (rear wiper washer) and usually the leak is experienced in the boot. In fact, I have owned 2 x polo's ( my wife also had 2) so that's 4, and all exhibited this problem at some point over 14 years of ownership.

I have not seen this on our Golf's yet but I wouldn't assume it can't occur.

Simply check and see if you're rear windscreen washer is working. If there's no pressure then I reckon it's safe to assume that's your problem.

Try getting access to the piping, clip back in to place. And proceed to dry the carpet with towels/hot water bottle overnight. Leave windows slightly open to allow condensate to escape ðŸ‘

Thanks Grant, it is definitely rainwater that is getting in, the rear windscreen washer is working and there is no scent etc. etc. I sponged up the water on Wednesday morning and it had dried up a little but after yesterday's deluges the area was flooded again. Additionally, the car has been in the drive over this period of time.

Getting in through the seals on the speakers in the rear doors - it's a well documented problem on MK7's

That's interesting - do you know if there is any information available online or web links? Do you know if the problem is easily rectified or have any additional information regarding a solution?

I contacted the VW main dealer where i bought the car and have it serviced etc... they told me it was most unusual and that they were not aware of any documented cases regarding water leaking through rear door speakers etc. etc. I booked the car in for early next week and hopefully they will be able to rectify the issue.

Should one expect VW to cover the cost of such issues given that it is obviously not wear and tear etc. etc.? Thanks.

A dealer is never going to say they've seen it before, there's no incentive for that.

Virtually no chance VW will cover costs. Maybe if you were a good customer of the dealer they would goodwill it but even that is unlikely.

    Hi,

Is the fix for this to replace the speaker gasket as shown in YouTube link, would the door not continue to fill up with water until it came through some other way?

Noticed some water around the bottom if the door today, nothing in the car just near the bottom of the door, 2016 mk7 golf.

I had this problem rectified (hopefully) - As far as I know, new door seals were fitted but will check the invoice tomorrow and post up the details. I think the cost was approximately €200, but again will confirm tomorrow - the invoice is in the service log in the car.

No, there's holes in the bottom of the door to let the water out, the problem is as water travels down through the inner door it leaks out through the bad speaker gasket and into the interior before it can get to the drain at the bottom.
