Changing from Macbook!

    Hi all

Just looking for suggestions regarding a new laptop.

I have used Macbooks for 8 years. Ordinarily I buy them in the US where they are a few hundred euro cheaper. I was planning on doing that in the next couple weeks as I'd a trip planned but with the virus I'm not going now. Macbooks are more expensive here and I can't afford the stretch so I am interested in getting a windows machine but I haven't had one for more than a few months in the last decade so could use a pointer or two.

Using the sticky on the front page, this is what I'm looking at:

Budget: €1000 is about the max I'd pay.

Intended use: Nothing major. Just surfing the web, writing, listening to music, watching sports and netflix. I really want a very good, high resolution display, and the one thing I love about my Mac is how fast it is and it never freezes. I've always had problems with Windows machines slowing down over time. Can I avoid this if I'm paying a decent chunk? Are there windows machines that are as fast and efficient as their mac counterparts?

I'd also like something that I could get 3 - 5 years out of ideally.

Mobility: I have a macbook air 11 inch at the mo and had planned on buying a macbook pro 13 inch. I was going to pick up this in the States: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-13-inch-128GB-Storage/dp/B07V49JVNH/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=macbook+pro&qid=1584092302&s=electronics&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNEpXODRZUDA1Tk80JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDc0ODQxMkhBVjFIRE43Tk1GMSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDE3NDk5T0kwSk1XTTAzUFRCJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== so roughly a 13inch screen. I don't mind smaller but wouldn't want much bigger.

Warranty: Is a warranty important? Not majorly unless someone tells me I need one. I have never used one before.

What Operating System do you use? As stated I've used Mac for years. However, I do often find myself irritated by how closed off the system is, and I use windows in work for the last 15 years so I don't foresee any major issues switching.

Would also mention I tried to switch from mac to windows a few years back but I got it horribly wrong. I bought a Lenovo combined laptop/tablet thing for about €400. It was horribly laggy and slow. This is why I want to see if anyone can point me in the right direction!

I also apologise if I could have found this information elsewhere on the forum, I skimmed a few threads but couldn't really find much.
