Hi, I have a company Stock Plan with ETRADE and was onto them this morning. They do not allow the opening of Brokerage accounts for Irish citizens. I would like to open a US account to purchase US Tech stocks. Can anyone recommend a US firm that I could open an account with and let me know how long the process takes ? I enter a blackout period on the 20th of March and am keen to purchase one company in particular. Would it be possible to get all this completed before then? I have the cash sitting in Transferwise and am ready to transfer funds once an account is setup.

Is there some special reason why it needs to be a US based house? These days the law is so strict that most US brokers won’t do it and those that do it require a lot of paperwork. I very much doubt you could get it all done in a week even if you could find a willing broker.

Have you checked if you could by the stock via a European broker? Most of them offer access to the main US exchanges.

Interactive brokers have no issue with Irish customers. Don't recall it taking very long to get up and running.

Most of them don't have an issue unless you want an account actually domiciled in the US, which I thought the OP was asking about.
