First ireland ask for a letter in writing to state that the repairs will take more than a day. Only then will they get the replacement car that was in clients extra roadside plus car replacement insurance.
    Is this normal?
A letter can never get there in time (today)

After they get a handwritten letter they will have to pass this on to their teamleaders fir review and it can take another day for to have it all sorted. In other words there is never going to be another replacement since it is needed on the day.

So what can be done to sort this out? Has anyone else here got the same experience?

It was smoking needs replacement parts. Ordering them takes a good while.
The policy booklet entitles for a replacement for 48 hours after break down of any kind.

Yea, but they’re not going to arrive with a rep car on a trailer. There’s always t’s & c’s.
Who’s doing the repair, main dealer or Fred in the shed. If a MD, I’m sure a scanned copy of the time estimate would suffice. If it’s Fred in the shed, well.......
TBH these kind of add on’s to insurance policies are rarely worth the effort IMO. It’s a way of getting an extra 50 quid out of you for little gain. If your car went on fire it will be a lot longer than two days in the garage. I’d make other arrangements if I were you and don’t bother with the add on next year.

If it's a fire, you're dealing with a claim and the courtesy vehicle section that applies in your policy

If you broke down on the side of the road, it is the assistance section of your policy that applies

Fact is first ireland does not accept anything else than a written letter.
It has to be through their dublin office and that closes at 4.30.
Client has no replacement transport and waits at premises. 'Fred the garage' providing with tea and parking spot and the headache of a desperate costumer who is stuck.
First Ireland arranges the hire and make it more expensive for same hire. Not a problem at that time but when it comes to paying it is a problem.
They demand the clients credit card details so they can make a one euro payment from this to the hire office.no payment in advance is needed but they still demand this.
Upon arrival the client is told to pay as first ireland refuses to pay or discussing why. They hang up.

Is it a free replacement or not. Why should you care how expensive it is. Your posts are confusing TBH.

Did you have a similar experience with first Ireland? They do not pay for the hours "fred" puts in trying to sort this out.

So now you want a replacement car and the labor costs to fix the car.

You are mixing up things here.
Have you had the same problem with First Ireland?

I’m not making anything up. Your posts are like riddles. I have a classic car policy with FI and never had an issue. You’re not telling us what’s in your policy document. As they say the devil is in the detail and we don’t have any. I’m not an expert but there doesn’t seem to be much input from them either. Sorry.

Mixing things up not making things up.
Making things up is what first ireland do after they order a replacement, get the details, confirm that all is in order and then go home without actually paying for the replacement.
So did you have a breakdown yourself and did you manage to get the replacement?

Do you have a fax machine or a internet PC? Fax is considered the same as written letter, email isn't.
