Car lost power whilst on the motorway

I was on the motor way coming home and just before my exit the car just wouldn't accelerate at all... I had my foot to the floor and it wouldn't accelerate,no power at all.... so I let the car crawl up the slip road then when I got to the top, I dropped her down into second gear but the car would hardly move for me... It was like it was almost going to cut out and was a bit jumpy so I put my hazards on.... I managed to crawl slowly round the corner then all of a sudden there was power in her again so I was able to get home as normal... Any ideas?

Similar happened to me on a car I had before on the M50. It was the MAF sensor, the car couldn’t rev past 3k rpm

I had an issue like that some time ago. after some investigation it was one of the Injectors failing to fire.

    This too shall pass.

The same exact thing happened to me before, almost to the letter, and it was a dodgy fuel pump. Suddenly lost power, then got it back again for about 30km and then it cut out completely. Not to say that's your issue though. It was an e46 3-series BMW I had.

might want to change the fuel filter , on some they used to put an extra small in line filter or as said pump is acting up , injector not firing , just pray its not the clutch

Similar happened me, but was able to maintain 80, the car shuddered as if I changed gears to fast, and then the service engine light came on.

Going up a hill was like Fred flintstone.

Fuel injector went.. Its an expensive fix so hopefully not that.

It could be a range of things. The car will like have stored a fault code on its ECU. Get it checked by a mechanic.

find similar model and swap out the MAF sensor. make sure not to handle tungsten strip as this is super sensitive to measure fuel/ air mixture. if it is MAF watch your revs. until you get it changed.

Possibly the Altenator failed. Happened to me a few weeks ago and needed replacement. No warning signs before it conked out.

Same to me on an 2011 diesel Passat 1.6. it was fuel injector problem. Thankfully it was under warranty as it would have been expensive enough.

Best advice. Engine went down in power because it was in limp mode. Get a diagnostic done to see what faults are showing.

    This,
People are chiming in with all sorted of ideas, it could be literally anything.
    Get it looked at.

I did exactly that. I had a petrol Audi A4 (long gone), the complete part (module and housing) was about €300 but the guy at the local autofactors told me that the same module was used in vw polo’s. Complete Polo part was €80, all I had to do was unscrew the modules and replace.

Had her in two different garages to get a diagnosic... Nothing came up on either of their computers... Got a full service done today he changed the fuel filter and said it was really bad. Then on my way home... Same thing started happening again... No power and spewing out black smoke.... I'm at a loss here now
