Getting driving licence with no car

Hi, just want a few opinions on what I plan on doing.
I have just done my provisional, I'm a 28 year old woman who's never drove before.
I don't want to get a car and insurance until I have a full license. I plan on doing my 12 essential lessons and extra lessons on top of that.
I don't have the option on getting put on my parents insurance or anyone else's.
Is it possible to pass the test just using the instructor? How many lessons do you think I should do besides the 12 essential?
    Thanks

If you have a look around the forum here, you will see that a good few posters have passed on lessons alone.

I had no sponsor, and passed with just lessons- no idea how many lessons I took. Between 1 and 3 hours a week for 6 months or thereabouts. So roughly 50 hours or so? Maybe more if you include pre-tests etc.
People will say 'oh I only needed 12 lessons to learn' but forget that they were driving around with parent/friend/partner regularly for hours on end too.

The amount of lessons needed will vary hugely- if I had someone to practice with regularly, 12 EDT lessons would have been fine, but I had to do it on lessons alone, and the hours will mount up. Plus I was terrified, so needed a lot of hand holding. I definitely spend well over a grand on lessons overall. Not bad for a new life skill though, if you look at it that way.

My instructor got a new car shortly after I had passed my test, and it was good to know I had helped with that. :pac:

That's great! Takes alot of worrying off my back knowing I can do it that way. I don't mind paying for the lessons, I'll shop around and see what I can get. I'm also very nervous about it and I'd say I'd need alot. Thanks for your quick reply 😊

    Hey,

I was 32 doing my driving test and was in the same position as you with no access to a car and not wanting to shell out with no license. I did all the driving in the instructors car. I passed the driving test with lessons alone. The main thing is consistency.

My advice would be, get the 12 lessons done, then get at least one lesson a week. When a lesson was over, or when I had time to think I could visualise driving

I personally found lessons early at the weekends and evenings when it's bright were best. But if you have time during the week day time lessons would be good.

Main thing is to be organised with the whole thing.

Never drove anything except the instructors car until i passed my test, Fairly common a few years ago.

As an independent instructor, without any incentivised insurance deals, I find that a good number of my pupils pass with little or no private practice. It's very possible. Being very clear, 12 lessons are on dipping your toe in the water. Get recommendations. Cheapest is rarely best

Did you have any issues getting insured with your full license even though it was your first time on insurance ?
Was it expensive compared to provisional as I'm thinking of doing the same.
A lot of the brokers I have spoken too are pushing me toward getting car 10 minimum years old rather than something older and basic just to learn to drive in.

Most insurers won't touch a car older than 10 years. It's just the way it's gone.
