The maintenance man has access to all cameras around our apartment blocks, in the evenings especially it feels like he is just sitting watching us all the time.. What I would like to know is how is this legal? The place is protected by Las security but he is not affiliated with them and yet he's watching us all the time.. To me it feels like he shouldn't be allowed have access as he lives here with us and he's a ****ing odd ball.

What are you doing around your apartment block that has you worried?

He should only have access to external cameras and possibly within the stairwells etc

What other cameras are there and where are they placed?
Sounds like you're just a bit too paranoid to be honest.

Is there a policy in place for the cameras?

OK well there is a speaker system set up and we can all clearly hear him telling people to move along all the time. He is watching what we are doing for sure 100% there are people that have received comments off him in person about things they done that day, also this has been brought forward to the letting agency to which they deny he has access to the cameras,he won't even acknowledge this when asked this is what has us all up over it

The only thing which mentions the cctv are a couple of signs stated these cameras are monitored 24/7 by Las security

Nothing but would you like a neigh our sitting in his room watching you coming and going all the time? To me this shouldn't be the job of a man living within the same complex....

So he's watching these from his sitting room, and making announcements over speaker too?

Have you made any recordings from the speakers so you can bring this to the agency as proof?

Aside from all the usual Boards snark, is it right or not that a resident has full access to watch everyone coming and going?

Yeah we have tried but I can't sit at the window all day.

Well yeah it does feel like he's at home chilling, creeping... after 6 most evenings he begins moving the youth away from the front of the buildings, won't even do it in person he is a weasle. Shouting over his mic and he's calling what they are wearing it's not pre recorded or anything.

Cameras are everywhere, outside and inside, bar the halls.

A lot of people would pay good money for that level of monitoring and service.

It isn't that common here, but in upmarket apartment buildings in other countries like the US, New York City, San Fran, etc. it is completely normal for maintenance people and door staff to have access to all the building cameras and to actively monitor them for issues.

Having said that there of course should be clear policy and information on such monitoring. Perhaps a GDPR request to both the management agency and security company would be in order.

    Who are these youths?
Normally people are ringing the guards non stop about youths hanging around?

And the Gardai generally do nothing about it. Sounds like it's a good service they are getting from the caretaker.

If he's the caretaker, then yeah, it could be right, depending on his job spec.

Yes that should be in place, there should also be a policy in place stating who has access to the cameras as if an incident occurs then that's who residents or anyone else should contact. Id request this information off management company and then see what it says if you feel he shouldn't have the access.
