9 Darters

Are 9 darters starting to lose their lustre and glamour? I think there was almost 50 last year, in the 1980’s they were as rare as hens teeth but with the thinner wires and more competitions they are becoming more and more prevalent.

I remember being completely blown away when Old Stoney Face Lowe did the the first televised 9 darter. MvG did it yesterday and I was mildly impressed. Got me thinking that it might not be a bad idea to make the double/treble beds smaller. It’s no longer the holy grail, sure Johnny Clayton bashes them out

It seems to be all about the averages now.

I’d like to see the beds made smaller, nostalgic wistfulness or its progress just accept it?

I’d forgotten that both Taylor and MvG hit 2 nine darters in the same match. Definitely lost its prestige, even more than the 147 in snooker

Should they consider making the treble bed smaller?
