What is up with XBox Live Gold?

I'm not sure how things are supposed to work, see if you can enlighten me, please.

I used to have XBox Live Gold. I bought codes and redeemed them, and all was well.
Until some time last year, I decided to give Gamepass a try. Took the 1 euro offer and converted my outstanding Live Gold into Gamepass Ultimate. This is due to end in May.

I've not been enchanted by Gamepass. They offer a bazillion games that I do not play. So, I don't want to continue to subscribe.

I thought I would be able to go back to Live Gold, but I don't see how. I purchased a 12-months code on cdkeys, but when I try to redeem it, they want to convert it to 3 months of Gamepass, and I don't see any other choice.

Is Live Gold gone? Or should I wait for Gamepass to completely lapse, before attempting to get Live Gold again?

yes, you must wait for game pass to lapse. Or create a new account and upgrade your 12 months live to gamepass again (possibly)

I was caught with this also, make sure you cancel gamepass as it does not lapse it just carries over.

I have already canceled the renewal for Gamepass, but it's still active until May.
So, waiting to lapse would mean waiting for that day to pass, so that my account shows no active subs.

Live gold is bundled with game pass. So once your game pass sub is up you can get back to just plain old live Gold with no game pass.

am in the same boat, not much for me to play, and 39.99 every 3 months compared to 44.39 for the year on Xbox Live Gold..

Mine is due 16 April, gonna let it lapse and restore to Live Gold

Get a years Xbox Live Gold on CDKeys, redeem that code once your current Game Pass has expired. Then buy a months of Game Pass Ultimate for €8 on CDKeys and redeem that, and it will convert your 12 months Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate
