Looking more and more likely the St Patrick days parade in Dublin could be cancelled , is this the right thing to do , probably is to be fair .
Charlie Flanagan of Fine Gael still wants a March for the Black and tans this year , could that go ahead instead on St Patrick’s day ?

    Yes, it should be cancelled.

Even if they don't go ahead, people will still pack into pubs.

If anything, the logical decision would be that all pubs should be shut and the parade let go ahead

In the parade you have people in the open air, not touching anything, and in most cases have a reasonable amount of space around them

In a pub, you have people in a confined space, touching the same surfaces and door handles and often beside the same (potentially disease harbouring) people for hours.

But no, lets cancel the parade and let the pubs stay open.

    They're going viral.

They cancelled the parade for the foot and mouth outbreak, but now when a virus comes along with a concerningly high fatality rate for the elderly and immune compromised, be grand.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yet the virtual signalling events, for international woman’s day, had gone ahead here and abroad. It seems some social activities are more equal than others.

Funny how we aren't hearing calls for pubs to be closed down until we get a hold on the virus. Nothing to do with the amount of politicians with vested interests in the pub industry of course.

They will cancel it. Look what happens in Italy if you don't act now.

What St. Pats day parades have you been to where the crowd has a reasonable space around them ???
Youre mostly packed like sardines all gawking for a view.
Pubs will be the same. If it only spares one life than yes, the parade should be cancelled and the shop and pub owners told to get over it.

I think they have already made their minds up on this, but they want to be seen to be giving die diligence on it from the perspective of the traders and business interests.

It’s not like to would be banning parades forever but if we buy time this year and minimise the number of people affected, in time there will be antiviral meds available and that would seriously reduce the danger of this particular virus.

Yes, to attend the Dublin one people will either pack on the dart, luas or bus, then into a cafe fast food place or pub for food. It's a breading ground you may as well just catch a flight to Wuhan and have done with it.
