I want to cycle to Kenmare from Mallow. I looked at some preview routes on Google maps and I find its either a national route or a narrow twisty country road with lots of checking map as I go. One epic climb is enough, 2 or more kill me. The 90k itself is Ok for me.

OR.. .Should I just get on the train to killarney and do a guaranteed mega cycle over Gap of Dungloe.

I am down for a few days. So thinking of doing a few nice routes, recommendations welcome

Can't give you a route, but the link below is great for generating quiet and scenic routes

Head to Barradubh (Barraduff on Google maps) on N72 (best via Banteer and Millstreet); left for Glenflesk; left again at N22 and right for Kilgarvan-Kenmare. No hills.

IME the best type of cycling is when you are doing end to end; on way with OH to wedding, holidays whatever.

With modern technology in smart phone/garmins etc you have no excuse for getting lost or struggling with navigation. For smart phone apps like Komoot, maps.me etc are a great resource.

In West Cork/Kerry if you are going to avoid hills you will be almost entirely on regional/national roads; that's why they are main roads.

On route, stating south of Blackwater to Millstreet is a no brainer. From Millstreet there is A LOT of scenic options which will be lumpy with poor surfaces.

    Sample attached enjoy!

South of the blackwater sounds good.. I go with that.

The route you've chosen is pretty bang on or the option from "large bottle small glass"

If you are in Kenmare and you like lots of hills and rough surfaces this is one of the best ways to spend a day down there
