List of 7-seater cars

Hello. Currently debating whether to become a one car household. Circumstances changing so need something to transport two children, large dog and occasionally, grandparents with relative ease.

Have two saloons at present (one is a Superb with all bells/whistles so I like a nice enough car, therefore I'm a reluctant convert to MPVs or crossovers).

I'm struggling to find out which cars actually offer 7 seats.

Could anyone offer a decent list I could refer to?

(More focussed on what's available rather than price yet but for sake of completeness say max budget of 40k, min year 171. Always had petrol but aware petrol difficult to find for this sort of car search.)

Go onto the likes of carsireland.ie and carzone.ie and search using the filters.

High spec Seat Alhambra would fit the bill nicely.

Alhambra/Sharan. Ford Galaxy and the smaller S max. We’ve a Sharan and find that unless you want to go to a van type, you won’t find greater practicality.

They’re more of a 5 +2, compared to the above.

If 5 + 2 acceptable then look at some of the Jap imports ( ! )

Saw some Toyota, Honda and Nissans that were 5 + 2 when I walked around a ( strictly jap import ) dealer the other day.

( I found them worryingly attractive - from a practicality point of view :o )

Maybe have a look at some of the 7 seater specialist dealers for a good overview of what is on offer.

Here is one - I've no affiliation https://www.7seater.ie/ but there are others

2 kids, occasional grandparents. You don't especially need a large MPV.

Indeed. I'm wondering if something like an S-max would be better suited. Galaxy etc. are enormous

The extra seats would be mostly for carrying children's school friends from time to time. I'd still need three seats in some combination and decent boot space. So I wonder if having one seat down in the boot would provide a substantial enough boot for holidays. One adult and two child seats is tricky in a single row.

There’s 5cm in the length between the SMax and Galaxy. They’re on the same platform and are both quite big.

Peugeot 5008 is available in petrol and has three isofix points in the middle row. That allows you to have two child seats side by side along with access to the back row. We bring the in-laws to France while using two child seats, a roof box and towbar mounted bike carrier. The rearmost seats can be easily removed so we leave one of them at home for extra boot space.

edit: I had a 2016 2.0 Superb with DSG. The 5008 is every bit as well built and the EAT8 auto box is superior to the DSG box IMHO.

You’ll have no issues with the large mpvs carrying two child seats and an adult in a row. We’d two large britax 360 child seats in the middle row and it doesn’t impact the other seat as they’re all independent of each other.

    Citroen Grand Picasso

3 individual seats in the middle row which take 3 adults or 3 full child seats no bother. Massive boot when two rear seats are down.
