'Doesn't she look great?'

Did this ever happen to you? Someone who you work with, or that are merely acquainted with, is given a compliment. Something about how they look great with their new hair-do. And then the person who gave the compliment (or someone else) says to you "doesn't she look good?".

This happened once when I was working in a shop. After an elderly male customer asked another member of staff about something was, he then paid her a compliment by saying "you're good looking". After she said "thanks" he looked at me and said "doesn't she look good?" Although I didn't fancy her or anything, I could see where he was coming from by giving her the compliment. I sort of just smiled and looked away.

The person who says "doesn't she? wants to see what your reaction. Whether you think the person is dog ugly or stunning, you don't want to be so humorless as to just take the question at face value by just saying 'yes' or 'no'. If you do actually fancy the girl, you want to be careful not to give anything away. Likewise you don't want to be so mean as to say "no, she's fat and she's a way too much makeup".

I remember once my sister was all dolled up for some wedding or something, and she asked "don't I look good". I responded by saying "yeah", but I only did so because she knew I didn't bother to even look. I think it hurt her!

    No
I suppose. It's just usually men are supposed to make sure that they don't hurt women's feelings. Hence the reason I feel like I'm not allowed to say that.

OP, there are things worth deep thought and things which aren't.

This falls into the latter category.
