I'm looking at changing cars and getting a Superb Sportline but struggling to find info on the actual differences between the two diesels and whether drivability differs much between them.

    I'm coming from a 190bhp A6 S-line which I would class as adequate.

I'd prefer the 190 (mostly just because) but there's more choice of 150s so the possibility of getting a better spec.

Anyone have first hand experience of both engines? Is there any spec difference other than power?

I’ve driven both in automatic and while the 190 has more overtaking power I found it very easy to spin the wheels from standstill and it struggled to get the power down. I’d be going for the 150 of there is better spec and availability.

Had a 190 and tried the 150. 190 all the way for me, overtaking is where the difference is apparent and it's usefully better. Never had an issue with traction off the line tbh, even with the crappy pirellis they were coming with at the time.

DSG is what I'd be after. I can't understand why there's so many manuals.

I do worry that I'd be a little underwhelmed with the 150. Going to the Audi from a 240+ octavia petrol was bad enough!

    You know what to do.

I have the 150 manual in the Octavia and it’s capable enough. I wouldn’t fancy it in a heavier car or with DSG though.
If you only find the A6 adequate, then it will not be worth getting the 150 in the Superb.

A car that size with the word Sport..... in the name, you need the 190.

I have the 190 DSG in my Kodiaq. Tried the 150 and it was a good engine but the 190 brings it car alive. Great for overtaking or repositioning without any drama.

I sow one 280hp petrol 4 wheel drive for sale a month ago or so. It's was gone fast and price for 171 was a bit high. Still, I would no say to one!

190hp ones are very rare too unfortunately, but I definitely would try to find one instead of 150 OP. Once you used to power you have, it's very very hard do go down. And in the end, you will hate yourself for going 150hp very quick.

I have a 190 bph Sportline with DSG and to be honest I've not found any issue with the wheel spin.
I have drove the 150 as a rental and its very heavy.

I'm changing mine now, and I'm only seeing 150 bhps in the newer models so I'm reluctant to go down to a 150bhp

I have driven both in manual Superbs, and am no expert, but I preferred the 150bhp. For me I just found the power delivery better.

If you’re used to soemtbing 120/150 BHP the 150 is more than enough, it really is.

But coming from a 190 BHP there’s no question of it, you have to stick 190BHP.

Why are you yoh buying a Superb? Surely with the premium a 190 Sportline is going to carry you’d get a decent A6?

I was always kind of sorry I bought the A6 rather than an Octavia vRS but it came up as I was looking to change from the 07 vRS. Adaptive cruise and Android Auto were on my wish list and there is no hope of getting an A6 with those for Superb money.

In the 2 years I've had the A6 I have been in convoy with an identically specced (black A6 S-line Ultra Black Edition) on three seperate occasions. Far too many A6s out there now so that's as good a reason as any.

    Thanks for the feedback all.

All going to plan I will be picking up my 190bhp Superb on Sunday! I found one with the spec I wanted (grey with the 9.2" nav) in the UK after coming up with no options here.

Just be careful with UK specs. The bigger nav is nice but things like heated seats, front parking sensors, reversing camera aren't standard like they are here.

It has heated seats and rear cam. No front sensors alright which is an odd omission and definitely something I'll miss!

Adaptive Cruise isn’t standard either just be careful.

Does the adaptive cruise have a separate stalk like in the Octavia, where the standard cruise is on the indicator stalk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

    Yep.

Yeah it does in the Skoda alright.

It really is a must. Sounds a super(b) car. Best of luck with it

Adaptive cruise (or the lack of it on the A6) is pretty much my reason for changing the car.

The only option I'm not sure it has or not is DCC which isn't a deal breaker by any means - I'm not even sure how to tell if it has it.

    I'm getting excited now!

I'd say closer to 27k taking flight/taxi/ferry into consideration. VRT at around 4.5k fingers crossed.

    .

Do you recall the price? Have a 171 280 here and plan to keep, but also would like to gauge value.

VRT was 4120 including NOx so happy at that.

    Happy with the car too!
