    Hi Folks,

Unfortunately I've got the above disco going on on my Gen 2's dashboard.
Code reader is throwing up the POa80 fault.

Is anyone aware of any Irish based specialists, sources of hybrid battery modules etc?

    Thanks Folks!!

This is the only place I know of. Based in Limerick but seemingly can deliver and install nationwide.

I doubt it's more than 1 or 2 cells that have failed this is usually what happens, it's no big deal to someone who knows what they're doing. It's a lot more of a problem if you had engine related issues.

They just find the bad cells, remove, and re-install.

Usually, to the best of my knowledge all cells are then balanced before they are hooked back up, that's if the voltages are off much.

Once fixed it should last years more.

Another thing that can be done is they can install reconditioned battery in a fraction of the time and then fix up yours for someone else provided they have a reconditioned battery.

Hoe many kms are on the car and the year?

The Prius battery usually lasts over 500,000 Kms for cars that are heavily used the problem is that old batteries can have issues regardless of mileage.

Before jumping through hoops, try charging the 12v battery... Prius will generate a plethora of errors when the aux battery is dying.

Has the hybrid check been done yearly? AFAIK Toyota warrant the Hybrid system for up to 15 years, not sure if there is a max mileage requirement.

The Prius is a very reliable car, even battery replacement/refurbishment is probably a lot less expensive than what can go wrong with a diesel. They are very popular in low wage economies (I don't like the term third world). Was in Phnom Penh Cambodia in December and they are everywhere. I asked a Taxi driver why they are so popular and his reply was that apart from being economical they are cheap to buy secondhand (Low import taxes when new) and easy to work on.

+1 from what I read about it, cheapest and easiest solution, a new 12 v, or a lend of one.

Also swapping the cells needs to be done correctly, matching all the variables, or you get the same again with the next weakest cells in a few weeks

I was under the impression Toyota would extended the warranty up to 10 years (provided you do the Hybrid check every year), but I see they state 15 now.

I thought I was doing the last hybrid check this year since my car is from 2010 but this is positive news :D

Yes it's positive news for any private owners who have kept up the health check and should allay any fears a buyer may have.

We put our 2009 Mark 2 up for sale about 2 weeks ago. Had at least 6 inquiries within a few hours. Car sold to first who came to see. I don't think it would have sold so quickly had we not kept up the warranty.

Hope our new to us Ioniq electric gives such good service...

i am not recommended to change modules in old battery because new/newer modules will kill old modules/cells( i done that 3 times but after a month max POa80). so you have two options to get a new battery(i got my from the ni toyota dealer for ~1300 euro with core exchange), or go to recommended ^^^ service
but dont waste your time an money on single cell replacement.

Just to clarify on this one folks, the 15 years are only for newer cars. My 2010 could only be extended up to 10 years.

    Just to update this.

I removed and charged the 12v battery but this didn't remedy the problem.

I pulled the hybrid traction battery and checked all the modules.
All modules, bar one, was around 7.89 ~ 7.91 volts; the duff module was reading about 6.5 volts if I recall correctly.

I'm going to try and replace the individual module, assuming that I can source one that is.

Thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated!

Important that it is charged to same level as others for successful repair.
