Under Pressure as No Pressure in Water

Ok having problems with the pressure in house.

So only moved into new house well not new in the literal sense.

This week we went to give the young gunner a bath and all went well. Then went to have a shower (electric triton) and it turned on and no water came out. Checked the tank and it about half of inch of water. However water was coming out of the overflow pipe out the back.

Plumber called and he replaced the ballcock but said check the pressure in the area & ask neighbours and Irish water

Young gunner got bath last night and same issue no water in the shower and pressure very low from taps. Took the shower head off and let it drain overnight. Got up this morning and tank was full but no water coming out of the shower but rads upstairs on and water pressure from bathroom tap not great. Water ok downstairs but again pressure not great

Spoke briefly to neighbour and they said that pressure in the area not great and some have got pumps installed.

Back on the phone to the plumber. Pumps cannot be installed on the main water mains so this is a no go and if neighbors have one this could be draining the water. Can put a breaker tank in out the back but he said call Irish water. Plumber can put pressure gauge to check but if pressure in the area not great not sure if worth checking

Back on the phone to Irish water and they have to investigate and cant give a time and will ring to let us know:mad:

So any suggestions or is it just sit and wait and shower elsewhere(work, parents local bath:rolleyes:)

    Cheers

I'm no plumber but my understanding is that these should all be relatively isolated systems

In my house, mains is connected directly to the kitchen tap and to the cold water tank. Heating is a sealed system but mains is connected via filling loop. All bathroom taps, showers and baths run off the cold water tank

Having said that I did once live in a house where the heating was connected directly to the mains to maintain pressure (which by all accounts is a terrible idea and I believe is not allowed these days). During the winter of 2010, the outside ballcock broke leaving us with no heating and no water upstairs after we emptied the tank.

Assuming you have a similar setup to mine, if your tank is full but you are getting low pressure in bathrooms, then it could be air in the system. I had an airlock in the previous mentioned house and I solved it in a pinch by attaching the hose off the hoover to one of the taps and sucking the air out (don't do this, there are better ways!)

Try that first and see if it improves for the bathrooms.

Having a pint so take what you want from this but heating and water pressure are two totally different things. Is your water tank running low of water at peak times?

you need to see how long its taking to fill up your mains tank (time it)

and do a smaller scale test with your Kitchen Tap. Both of these should be fed from the mains.

this should tell you if issue is internal or not.

    Thanks for the replies

Ok saw the irish water website to get rid of airlock

    https://www.water.ie/water-supply/supply-issues/airlocks/

Have to try this but if not coming out of the electric shower do I need to suck the water out of the hose(insert double entendre here) or attach hose from hoover:rolleyes:

Before we went to bed last night the tank was dripping in water and this morning it was full. Rads upstairs where on also so not sure if they heat from the tank? Not sure how long it took to fill

Water only seems to run low when Junior gets a bath at night time

Also would water from Washing machine and dishwasher have anything to do with low water, covering all angles
