Not against some speed checks but with the Go Safe vans introduced, the garda should have been freed up to do more checking of the following:

    Bald tyres
    No tax
    No NCT
    No Insurance
    Faulty headlights
    Faulty tail lights
    Mobile phone while driving
    Jumping red lights
    Blocking yellow boxes
Parking on double yellow causing an obstruction.
Educating the difference between Fog Lights & DRL.

If the RSA & government were serious about all aspects of road safety speed would be only one of the areas rather than the only area.
Speeding alone does not cover all Road Safety.

They should be amending some speed limits and targeting 'Excessive speeders' only.

Driving is a privilege not a right - This message needs to be enforced more by getting more bad drivers off the roads completely.

Frustrating to see some drivers have no nct, no tax, missing headlight, missing taillight & drive at 50km everywhere no matter what the speed limit is.
A speed/Garda speed check has no impact on them yet they are more dangerous than anyone 5k over a speed limit.

Why do the go safe vans not automatically also check, NCT, TAX & Insurance?? At least that would get more drivers compliant or get them off the roads.
Poorly taught out policy by law markers/RSA etc.

    Rant over...

well there's no real need to have vans check these things. Just do what the UK do, post out a fine for any missing legalwork . No SORD? No Tax? fine in the post....Gards shouldn't be involved in enforcing tax collection.
