Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has a redrock tub diet feeder and what is your experience with them. We are in the process of buying a new one but am cautious as we had bad luck with 2 previous diet feeders which were a Keenan and a tarrup, they were not equipped to deal with silage bales and were an expensive mistake. I know now we should have went with a tub feeder from the start. We have not enough land on the milking platform so we were deciding between a zero grazer and a diet feeder . We are going for the diet feeder as we can add other feed to it to improve their diet and milk output so any thoughts on the redrock tub diet feeder did be greatly appreciated thanks.

I'd imagine all the main tub are very similar. They'll all mix ok. Takes a long time to mix bale's thou.

Bought one last October and very happy with it, built like a tank and a few k cheaper than other brands, don’t put a lot of bales in it here but it handles them no bother but your doubling mixing time and the amount you can load in, can do a 6 ton mix of beet/wagon silage/ and meal no problem, with it ready 5 minutes after last bucket of silage goes in, you’ll struggle to do a consistent 4 ton mix with bales and mixing time will be a lot longer

The key with bales and feeders is to shake them out and then load them in. Especially unchopped but even when chopped. My bales are fully chopped with 23 knives and it looks almost like wagon silage when shaken out. Feeders with good knives will manage whole bales but it adds a lot of stress. You can hear it in the tractor. Tub gearbox do go and they're not cheap.

My choice of tub if buying tomorrow would be a Condell Feedall. I get it with a belt as it's great to meter out a buffer feed but get at least 1 door too so you can dump out quickly and save wear on the belt.

I’m no help to you but thinking about a tub here too. What size of a feeder are you going for and what sort of money?

We have decided on a 14 cubic metre redrock diet feeder and it's costing 22000 euro, we got a finance package to pay it over 5 years.
Thanks for all the replys guys.

Used them a few times and the key with the bales is to shake them out before loading as a full one or nearly full one can be severe on them and the tractor

What else will you have to buy or build for the diet feeder like will you have to put up bins for straights?
