Stanley Stove door loose

We have a Stanley Erin stove. The fire door handle was loose and would rotate too far. I bought a new ‘catch’ for it which slightly worked for a while. The problem now is that the new catch has scraped a track in the frame and is loose again. Contemplating buying a new handle altogether, but not sure bout the track that’s been dug out now. Would fire cement work to fill it at all? I have a feeling it would scrape away too easily....
