How is it connected? HDMI, display port, vga...? Is source on the monitor set to which ever one it is?
Probably setting buttons underneath the bezel

Just those buttons on the front panel. it`s fed via vga.
What do you reckon is that icon is bottom right on screen? I klnow it means something.

ps. screen doesnt have any visible signs of cracks, tho thats not to say.

With the vga connected to the computer reboot it but beforehand use the bottoms on the bottom right of the screen to set source to vga. Probably have to put a tick next to the vga option.
Never seen that icon, it’s not on the plastic wrapping by any chance :)

Seems to be auto-select on the input, no buttons to choose, icon def on the screen and a locked padlock for a split second.
It either means the monitor is locked or that the screen itself has damage

This is an odd one. After a Dell U2412 LCD had been placed on its face to connect cables, the screen became locked. After some research this apparently happens when the MENU button is held in for 15 seconds. So monitors like the Dell E228WFP, P2210 and 1701FP can be unlocked by holding the MENU or SETTINGS button for 15 seconds.

    Any use?

This is the problem, it first prompts you to select English, once you do that the screen shows that padlock and shuts down, no more menus or anything.
    I think it`s a lock issue.

Leave it unplugged when you go to bed? Check in the morning, worth a try
