Laptop Screen Not Displaying

This has been bugging me for the last few weeks.
I have a old Sony Vaio 14" laptop that all of a sudden the screen would change colors if it moved. It would be fine until the screen was tilted back or the laptop was physically moved then the screen would turn pink or blue.
I plugged it into a monitor via HDMI and it worked perfectly so thought that it might be the screen or the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard.
I decided to replace both but even with a new screen and cable the display is now completely dark. I can just about make out the boot up logo and splash screen when I shine a light on it and I of course tried the "Alt" + "F6" to adjust the brightness but nothing has worked so far.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    no idea.

if it's that old probably not worth bringing it to a repair service.

It's 8 years old and never given me any trouble before until now. I've searched Google for answers and pretty much tried everything suggested. It boots up and everything, but I can just barely make out whats on the screen without shining a light on it. I've a feeling like it's a problem with the motherboard, if that's the case then it's probably too much hassle to get it replaced.
