Theres this lad who cycles into work and stinks out the place all day.
He has no cycle gear, wears his jacket, shirt and jumper, comes in, peels off the jumper with a big wet patch on his back.
The smell is quite offensive, overpowering even.

One or two of the staff acknowledge he stinks but no one dares saying anything.

    He stinks like a pig!

I open the window to air out the place but today Im keeping it closed!
I cant wait till summer comes and the heating ramps up!

    aaaaghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

If youre reading this buy some cycle gear and have a shower

Say it to a manager, managers are there and paid to deal with this stuff.

Have a similar issue in my office. Someone sent an anonymous text to the person in question and it abated for a good while. In fairness he is probably nose blind to the smell at this stage.

If it were me, id prefer someone say it to me on the QT but everyone is different so may not take it the same way.

    Tell him.

Have seen similar situations in the past. They don't work out well without just telling the person.

Don't be a dick about it. Just be upfront.

That's an issue for your HR department if your company has one.
Make a complaint. They are required to keep that confidential, and they can deal with teaching this guy what soap is.

If he's a normal person, going straight to HR makes a bigger issue out of it than may be necessary. He's probably simply not aware that he's stinking the place out. It shouldn't be too hard to address in person without making a big deal of it. Something along the lines of, "Fair play for cycling, and you might not realise this but..."

If nobody is prepared to say it to him in person, you could always leave him a polite, anonymous printed note in a similar vein. Or from an anonymous hotmail account. Or there are online notification services for just this purpose, e.g. http://www.nooffenseoranything.com/bodyodor.html

On the other hand, if he doesn't do anything once he's been made aware, then tell HR. It's their job to handle something like that.

Any showers nearby that he could use near office? Nearby gym etc. Could shower be installed in office in order to support people cycling into work or doing workouts at lunch.

    Theres a shower in work!
The problem is no one wants to say anything including the boss, just to stress again the smell is enough to stink the entire room out its quite amazing

This all day long. Be honest. He may not know.

It's also worth noting that this is probably a little bit more than "he's a bit sweaty". Unless his cycle in is a full-on workout then it's unlikely that the smell is coming from today's commute.

He's probably wearing clothes that haven't been washed properly and it's the accumulation of sweat and smell-causing bacteria that's resulted in this smell. I used to work with a guy, he didn't stink the place out when he was walking around, but when he arrived in the morning or you walked past his desk, the waft was overpowering.

It was his jacket. He had a shower when he arrived in the morning, he obviously washed, but he wore the same jacket when cycling every day and over time it became incredibly smelly.

It was only resolved when one of the girls with no filter loudly informed him that his jacket stank and he needed to wash it.

Can you go to your manager as as group. Its easier for him/her to brush off individual complaints.

Leave a bar of soap on his desk
