I assume the power port on the laptop is damaged.

    Is the original charger?

Just means it’s not the original charger, does it work when you take the battery out? If it does, it’s the battery that needs replacing, if it doesn’t, it’s the port on the motherboard or the charger itself. Try a different known working charger

How old is the laptop ? Does it work when plugged in ? If so, it's possible that the internal battery isn't taking a charge and needs to be replaced. Do you have any pics of the battery indicator when laptop is plugged in and does laptop go dead when plug is removed?

From the pic, it looks like the laptop is recognising the plug as spurious and not manufacturer issued, I could be wrong but I would still consider the battery to be failing.

What happens when you click on any of the options on screen ?

Not the original charger and its a Dell studio 1555 have it a while

It's working okay when plugged in just not charging

There is about 60% battery in it so working when plugged out but obviously when battery % decreases it won't

Worth getting another battery and if so best place to get it?

    Cheers

Anyway of distinguishing if it's battery and not charger or vice versa.

Don't want to buy one thing and it's the other thing I require

    it's most likely the charger.

one option is to get it on amazon and return (postage cost of return) if doesn't solve the issue.

with amazon the advantage is that you won't have to repay the initial sending out cost if on prime or over £25

did the battery discharge normally to the level it's at now?

if it did then it's not the battery.

Ok took the battery out and not a kick out of it would not turn on. Put in the charger and works ok. Once take charger out then battery % goes down and not re charging

Was onto Laptopchangers.ie saying that I can order the batter as well but should it be gone at this stage?

May try order charger first and see if that works

Take it that this website is sound enough for ordering

Probably be cheaper to get it tested in a repair shop than buying things you are not sure if they will fix it or not.

Only problem with that is they would charge for that so more money wasted. Not sure if I do buy charger and it does not work can I get refund

    that's why I recommended amazon.

you wouldn't to repay the postage charge for sending it out to out initially if you send it back for a refund.

you will in most/all other places.

the extra cost or posting a packet back to uk compared to within ireland is very similar.
