Osram Night Breakers Laser worth it?

I've had a few sets and I would be in the 'meh' camp. Yes they are brighter, but not hugely as far as I can tell and I find the life to be short. And given my complete lack of mileage, I really shouldn't have to change bulbs often. I put a set in my Lexus not too long ago and so far so good, the beams were stronger but I'm not sure I'd say 50% better. Maybe 20%. Only reason I went with Osram this time was that the output from my headlamps were complete garbage so I wanted something much brighter.

I have had the Osram bulbs and also equivalent Philips ones in H4 and H7. They all have short life span, but I found Philips are probably a little longer lasting. Depending on generation there is not much difference between the equivalent models. Regarding the brightness, yes they are great, but at a high cost obviously.

I put them in my new Kia Niro as the factory fitted ones weren't great. They're a definite improvement but too early to give any info on durability yet.

Additionally the Niro only has one bulb, with one filament, for both high and low beams and uses a shutter to switch between the two, so you don't even have the benefit of some extra light power when you switch to full beam making a good light output even more important.

By the way if anyone wants some Philips X-treme Vision H7's I've got two new and unopened twin packs here left over from a previous car I can let you have for the price of a pint or two :) PM me if interested.

I always found them to be only a minor improvement with short lifespan.

I had them in a few cars and found them a big improvement over standard H7's, none blew after fitting so lifespan was fine.

I got the Philips h7 LEDs.. not "road legal" but a massive improvement in a projector lens.

The only downside, is, if your headlights are covered in snow or ice, you'll have to clear them, there is no heat from them to melt the ice, unlike a regular bulb.

I always replace bulbs in pairs.. for some reason, replacing one, results in the other blowing soon after.. and then the first goes, and..,. you're into a vicious cycle.

They're OK according to this German test but there are plenty of other bulbs ahead of them.

GE appear to be good according to the review.
Aldi +90% came first and some other no-names scored high too.

I had Aldi H4's in a work transit they were brilliant, they saw it to its final resting place, they were definitely in it for 3 years or more.

Lidl's own brand H7s "+100%" have surprisingly good light output. And they're dirt cheap. :)

All halogen upgrade bulbs will have a shorter life, due to a thinner filement to get the brighter light. Personally i haven't used them, but I have used the cool blue version, I found it to be a better clear light on most roads, compared to the Philips equilavent I find the light the same, but the life longer in the Philips.
