hi i was on sick leave last year - and back on sick leave again - i got sick pay from work last year - have ran out for this year.. have applied for illness benefit this year as I did last year too - got it last year.. its on it way this year too

but thinking - should i have applied for illness benefit if work were paying me?

i feel that the answer is no..

this is just dawning on me now..

    should i call revenue?

i don't wanna get a fine in the future

i am honestly clueless about all things money related..

please - no judgement.. i am out sick with stress.. was chatting to a mate and they made me aware of this.. I would not have thought of it otehrwise

    thanks in advance

    Please don’t worry.
You are fully entitled to apply for illness benefit never mind if your employer pays you or not.
Yes, most employers will ask you to give them the illness benefit if they are paying you but If your employer paid you and allowed you to keep your illness benefit too then that was very generous but you are not in trouble with revenue or SW.
Illness benefit will notify revenue that you got illness benefit and you will be taxed on it.
If you feel up to it tomorrow you might email payroll at your workplace and notify them that you have applied for illness benefit and let them take it from there.
Please look after yourself and seek medical attention if you can. That’s the important thing. Your health is your wealth.

wow thanks a million for that - I will have a read of the sick leave policy again - its like double dutch - hence the difficulty in interpreting it..
i will see then if i need to call payroll
i am seeking medical attention - thanks

Yes. People can be on Illness Benefit and also employer paying them wages, all depends on the companies policy for sick leave.

    No need to worry

You should check your jobs illness policy.
If sometimes happens that the IB payment is to the employer and the company pay the balance in the form of a full wage.

my panic was in vain... had a look at the policy - was still none the wiser... got onto wages.. turns out the employee must apply for IB as work automatically deducts it from our wages.. so turns out, just as well i had been getting IB after all..

    thanks for all the replies..
