Drug payment scheme refund - how & when?

This month I've needed my prescriptions filled by multiple pharmacies, and it's my first experience with getting a DPS refund (as opposed to just paying to the cap at my regular pharmacy). I found the form online, but there's no information about how refunds are dispensed. I have two questions:

Does anyone know how the refund system currently operates — do they just send a cheque?

How long do you have from the month ends to submit the claim — is there a time limit after which it is no longer valid?

Would appreciate any information or experience anyone has on this front!

    Hi,

You can go back as far as you like when applying for a DPS refund, but you must apply for it yourself, showing proof of you paying your initial €124 monthly medication costs and also receipts for the excess money you paid.

You need to download the DPS refund application form (not the card app form) from hse.ie and send in that with the additional info attached.

Also DPS is re-imbursed at HSE set prices so may not be the exact amount you paid in pharmacy, this only happens sometimes, the amount fluctuates so if you paid 100 euros for something, sometimes you may only get back 70/80, or even more.

and yes you're reimbursed via cheque.

    snip

Exactly what I wanted to know, thanks so much! Don't know why all that can't be on the website— there is some info about the reimbursement cap, but nothing about eligible time and payment method.

    Much appreciated!

Yeah the site can be a bit vague alright, you're welcome!
