Hankook and Avon tyres any good?

My local garage offered me them for €86 a corner plus vat which would include fitting. I just don't want to be flogged off with the shïttiest ones which have the highest markup for the shop.

I asked for A rated Michelin's they cost €110 a corner plus vat.

I currently have firelli. I never had to drop the anchors so don't know if they're any good or a crap brand.

Is it advisable to replace ALL tyres or just the front worn ones? There's plenty on the back ones.

I've never had any issue with either tyre. I've found both to be very good.

Both decent tyres and usually priced around the same. They'd be classed on the upper side of the mid range tyre.

Replacing 2 tyres as once may be fine, What car are you driving?

I think you’ll get the extra wear mileage out of the Michelins , making them the best value. I put 2 new Michelins on a car this week and it was transformational 2 worn Michelin came off but you’d swear the car had new shocks , bushes and track rods , well worth the money.

    Here’s some benchmark pricing

You could save a chunk of money by using site above, if you’re bothered.

Nothing wrong with Hankooks, they’re standard fitment on a lot of the Korean built Hyundais.

tyre-guru.ie is where I get mine most of the time, they can send them to a fitting partner in your area to be fitted. Free delivery on two tyres. eiretyres.ie are good as well.

I had Avon ZZ5's on my car a few years ago, excellent wet and dry grip but they wore very fast, I got around 20k kms out of them before they were below the wear markers. The ZZ5's are Avons top performance tyre so its possible a slightly lesser model your being quoted for.

Havent tried Hankooks in decades but never had any problems with them

I fitted 4 brand new Kumho Ecsta PS71's a few weeks ago, so far so good, great all round grip and they're nice and quiet. Cant comment on wear life but hoping theyre not too bad!

Forgot to say, prices above are including fitting ^

Takes around 8 days from ordering.

OP, what general part of the country are you in ?

    A few years ago I needed a set ( 4 No ) 215 55 R16.

    I got Hankooks from https://www.seanmcmanustyres.com/

    IIRC they were 72 / tyre ( fitted )

    [obligatory comment]

Put the good rear tyres on the front, and the new tyres on the rear. Have them balance the rear wheels before fitting them to the front.

Google it. This is the advice from the major tyre manufacturers (for FWD cars anyway).

It sounds counter-intuitive, but that is the advice.

I had Hankooks from new on a Santa Fe back in 2002. No issues, very good tyre.
Very popular in Korea \ Asia.

Bought a brand new Kodiaq last June and it has Hankooks. Fantastic grip, wearing slow, no issues.

I've never heard of Avons until now so I can't comment beyond that.

I think it would be better if people actually rotated their tyres and replaced them all in one go, then we wouldn't keep having this argument! :)

Hankook make some very good tyres, in fact I would say they are a premium tyre manufacturer now.
Avon are decent tyres but not as good as Hankook generally.

Ran Avon ZR7's for about 20 months and circa 28k kms with no issues. Good grip in the wet, good in the dry. Wear rate was even. Got them at a price that I was happy with from the local lad that matched the regular online places.

Tried the Hankook ventus prime 3 after, cost about €15 more each than the Avon's, same story good wet grip and good dry grip, no dramas. Slightly noisier than the Avon's. Lasted 18 months and circa 25k kms.
Both sets had a bit more mileage in them as they were just hitting the wear markers when replaced.

If it were a blind test, I couldn't tell them apart...but then again I keep to the speed limit and almost always have kids on board. My other playthings run Michelin pilot's but that's for another day.

I've done track days on Hankook tyres, I think they'll be alright on your i20 somehow.

Also, you can Google tyre reviews.
