Thermostat replacement

I've an old Mazda 6 with the thermostat stuck open.

Unhoused ones are about €20 on Mick's garage and housed ones are €100+.

Is it possible to use the unhoused version here to save on costs? And is it a handy enough job to switch them?

I have socket sets and spanners etc.

It's a second car and will only do about 3k km tops per annum.

    Thanks

There are plenty of video on tube "How-to"
Once you avail, dismantle first to see if thermostat comes out from housing easy, inspect housing for wear/damage, then you'll know what part to get.
By the looks of it , you need to depress spring and twist out bracket held by stand-offs in the housing, however, that is plastic part - could break as it gets brittle with age/heat.
Zafira A had similar, however, it was Alu housing and much better location for access.
