I changed the brushes on the motor of my 10 yr old bosch washing machine...the drum spins & reaches full speed when empty, but put so much as a pair of jeans in and it struggles...you hear a straining noise from the motor

btw - i check brushes 3 times and they are definitely in the correct way

Did you check the belt tension?

Take out the brushes again and clean the comm of the armature with very fine sandpaper, (1000 grit) I would think it has a build up of carbon, btw there is no belt adjustment in Bosch

that would mean stripping the motor surely? ...as there is only a very small slot for the brushes

Just remove the motor from the drum, take out the brushes and with a folded piece of fine emery paper clean where the brushes touch the end of the armature (comm), there should be no need to strip the motor to do this, also give the c/bs a light rub of the emery paper, if this doesn't sort it I would suspect the windings are breaking down under load. (you will get your fingers in to press on the emery paper either side of the brush holders)

did what you said, put it on a empty spin got to top speed and then a loud pop! and a flash from the back of the drum....switched it off immediately...take it motor is spent?

Looks like the motor has burned out or the module (pcb) is shot, or possibly both.
What's the model of the machine BTW.?
    Roughly how old is it.?

10 years..! that's well above average these days even for a Bosch.

Has served you well TBF. especially on the first day set of brushes.
You in Limerick city or county.?
