Putting declared off the road car back on the road - last minute NCT?

Anyone know if it's possible to walk in to an NCT centre and be prepared to wait to get a last minute appointment as a result of a no show or last minute cancellation?

Friend has a car off the road for a few years that they now want to use again, their local NCT centre has no availability until April and they need it on the road for next week. They can't bring it to any other NCT centre as car has been off the road and currently isn't taxed or insured.

Can't get insurance until it's NCT'd so they're kinda caught in a dilemma.

How do you plan on getting the car to the the NCT centre with no insurance?

Not my car, so I don't know all the ins and outs, presume they'll have to get it towed, hence wanting to use their local NCT centre and not one an hour away that has availability.

Yep, go first thing on a Sunday morning (8am) and you'll get looked after.

Drop into them beforehand and check

Naas looked after me recently when I needed an urgent test before selling a car.

Not insurance company I've ever been with has required a valid NCT to be insured. I dont have a valid NCT at the moment because of the broken lifts, I read my insurance cert and there is no mention of the NCT in it.

Di you not need the car insured before they'll carry out an nct?

No, what would you need that for?

Not all companies will quote without a valid nct though. So you might be able to renew but getting a new policy can be difficult

who are you with? Mg heart is broken with insurance companies demanding nct certs ? Worse they have access to some database and can look it up -I know because I misrepresented the truth last year and they rang me & told me they knew mune was not in date and cancelled my paid in advance policy for the year and then tried to charge me e180 additional cancellation fee. Holy war ensued.

OP -your friend may find theycannotget insurance if they have no policy for more than 3 months. They might be better shopping around and renting a car if they need one urgently.

BTW NCT centers are issuing ‘incomplete’ nct certs at the mo as they cannot test the car fully due to the ramp fiasco.I have one and am not looking forward to the getting a new quote next week in the insurance nonsense merrygoround.

Anyone can look up a reg number on the NCTS website and tell if the NCT is in date or not. It is free.

The NCT centre is a public place so you need insurance when there. No idea if they needs it to be insured or not for the test but how do you get around needing insurance in a public place?

A trailer, a recovery truck, getting someone to drive it on driving other cars cover, getting a mechanic to drive it there under a trade policy.

    roadblock del fails again.
