New car or not?

    Hi All.

At the moment, I have a 171D Toyota Yaris Hybrid. I was thinking of changing cars next year but finances may dictate that I can not, so if I can ask people for best options it would be great to get some advice.

Which of these 3 options that I am thinking about now would be the best option or where I can get the best deal. All are for the Toyota Yaris Hybrid.

Option 1 was to buy a 201 D in June or July, does the price of a new car get discounted just before or after the 20D2 registrations come out. What would I expect to pay with a trade in for a low milage car.

Option 2, to buy a 202 D car.......What would the expected price be, again as above, what would I expect to pay with trade in.

Option 3 then is of course to wait and buy a 211 D car.

What do people think of the options ?

    Thanks in advance

What mileage is on your car now ? Why change at all ? You are taking a big hit on depreciation every time you buy new.

32,100 Km at moment. I am aware of the depreciation but I find myself that I maybe not able to take a bigger hit in the future so thinking of buying new with the idea of holding on much longer. Was just looking for advice on the options I gave. Thanks for taking the time to reply

But you won't outspend depreciation. You will be in the same position in 3 years time again.

BTW there is an all new Yaris being launched this year so you would want to be getting a super deal to be buying a brand new current model that has been on sale since 2012.

32K Km's ....................... It's not even run in yet. The only person that will tell you to buy the new car is the salesman in the Toyota garage.
I'm only losing €5k after five years on a VW Golf. Our next purchase will be 2010 to 2013 with low mileage and most of the depreciation taken by previous owners.

No way would I change that car. It's likely to give you at least another five years of trouble-free, lower cost service if you look after it. Only reason I would change now is if you anticipate (as a matter of strong probability) needing a bigger car. Even then I wouldn't change until you need it.

I only ever buy well-maintained cars about three years old so I guess people like you are the ones who allow me to avoid the ~50% depreciation suffered in the first three years.

the last bit in particular! finances may dictate that you cant, keep it! Its not like you even be getting a new model as bazz points out. Absolutely keep the current car!

Thanks Guys, will take everything you said on board. The only reason I was thinking of changing so soon was I am retiring soon and will not be able to afford a new car again. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Id personally save the money for your retirement, not landing it on another car, you car is nearly new as is

Darrio, I remember a guy we know retiring from a major Irish whiskey firm and buying a new Mazda saloon as it would see him through retirement . He's out lived the car :D. Your Toyota will give you years and years of use, and you can spend the money saved on yourself.
