Advice Qashqai and Sportage

Currently looking at a 141 qashqui, has 135k miles on the clock.

Sportage is 131 with 115k on the clock.

Just wondering in terms of the miles for the respective year, what's the reliability for those models. Sportage is a private sale garage with the qashqui so the Sportage is that bit cheaper and would have more room but read about potential gearbox issues with those models.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

I wouldn’t touch a 141 Qashqai with that mileage. Why bother?

The Sportage would be a better buy. If the clutch is heavy when you press it that’s one way of a new clutch needed. Make sure you drive it and change it up and down gears all the way. It should be smooth, if it’s not factor in a new (not secondhand!) gearbox.

Yeah been getting a similar opinion from others with mileage on the Nissan.

Would you know rough cost of replacing both the clutch and gearbox if one or both issues happened with that model? Want to factor that in incase it did happen as would have to cover it myself if I went with the Kia. Changing cars is a pain in the ass when it has to be done!

The clutch is anywhere up to and over a grand for the full kit and flywheel.

The gearbox could be endless because it’s pointless buying one second hand because they’re all the same and I’ve also seen some “repair” jobs fail again within a year. Budget over 2k

My Qashqai has 300,000kms on it and just had the clutch replaced for the first time. Cost €1,050 including flywheel, pressure plate and master cylinder. My mate's 142 Sportage (140,000kms) is on her third clutch! Might be the car, might be her resting her foot on the clutch pedal, who knows?

If it were me, I'd look at a VW or Skoda SUV for better build and reliability.
