Water turning hair green in Galway

    Hi, I've always dyed my hair blonde and never had any issues. Over the last few months, it has been turning green, breaking and falling out. I went to a hairdresser who informed me that it is recently a huge problem in Galway. Are there any known issues? It costs a lot of money to fix.

    Hi japanesebanana,

    Apologies for the delay.

    The colour of your hair may be altered if you have hard water in your home. Hardness is a natural characteristic of the supply and it contains high levels of natural minerals absorbed from rock and soil. You can find more information in relation to this here.

    We recommend that you contact your hairdresser who may be able to advise on how to remedy the problems you are having with your hair colour.

    We hope this helps, please feel free to get in touch again.

    Thanks,
    Allanah

    Thanks. I understand that but my question is why is this happening now, when I've lived in the same place/house for 15 years and dyed my hair the same colour with no issues until recently, and other people are also recently having similar problems, all of a sudden. Has anything changed with the water supply?

    Hi japanesebanana,

    We're really sorry to hear that. When we treat the supply to make it safe to drink we do not remove the minerals, as they pose no health risks. We work closely with the HSE to monitor the supply as our main priority is providing a safe drinking water supply.

    If you have noticed a change in the water quality coming from your cold kitchen tap that you are concerned about, please feel free to send a PM with the following details and we can look into this:

    - Name;
    - Address; and
    - Contact number.

    You can also check the water quality results for your area by entering your address here.

    Thanks,
    Allanah
