Paring back undercoat plaster

    Hi all,

I had an issue where plaster came away from the brickwork on my wall, leading to a large hole. On the advice of a plasterer, I got some undercoat plaster, put some PVA on and built it up beyond the surface of the wall with the intention of "scraping it back".

Another plasterer, who I accosted on the road, came in briefly and told me I was doing the right thing.

So now the hole is filled with undercoat plaster but is not level with the wall. I bought a drywall rasp and it is taking plaster off alright, but I think it is not the right tool, i have been doing it for two hours and while it has smoothed it off, it is still sitting far out.

Attached is a picture of the plaster and the tool I am using. Any advice from anyone?
