    Hey,

We are looking at places in Donnycarney as it seems like a nice area. Recently we viewed a place on Clancarthy Road, which appears nice albeit busy traffic wise.

We were curious however about the place at the top of road, 186 Malahide Road. We were told it is a nursing home but we can't find anything online about it. This is it on street view https://goo.gl/maps/hvsmvjfHKninXaMm6

Anybody know what it is or have any thoughts/experience on the area (judging by other older threads, it seems like it's a good area)?

    Thanks.

Dunno about it being a nursing home. I thought it was sheltered housing for elderly. Either way there's no trouble from it if that's your concern. Great area, handy for city. Very settled, fairly trouble free and that's a good spot in Donnycarney.

Can get a bit hectic parking wise when a match is on in Parnell Park.

Yeah it didn't seem like a nursing home, so wasn't sure how true it was. Thanks for that, always good to get another opinion on an area, so really appreciate it as I think we have settled on the Donnycarney area, just need to find the right place now :)

I passed it for about 3 years on the bus / by bike and have walked by a few times and never saw any issues.

Match days, mass times and the school at the other end of the road are likely to be much greater issues.

There is more sheltered housing with a social centre at St. John's Court.

Eircode https://finder.eircode.ie/ indicates 5 residential addresses, no non-residential addresses.

Never thought of checking the eircode, nice idea!

So seems like we should prioritize a place with private parking. We'll have to check out the area during mass times and any upcoming matches to see what it's like.

Thanks, this is really useful information!

I've lived locally enough for 8 years.

Mass is fine, most people walk and there's a big enough car park in the church anyway for the lazy/infirm, so wouldn't worry about it.

Match days can be a pain everywhere in Donnycarney, but there aren't that many matches during the year. Because the traffic can get a bit hairy, people tend to park where they can make a quick exit....so anyone heading towards M1 are around Belton Park area, anyone heading up the Malahide Rd parks in Killester Ave area etc. Clancarthy is busy enough anyway that people would avoid it, plus its one-way only from the Parnell Park / Collins Ave end anyway......to get there you have to drive past PP and that's where the regulars try to avoid.

You're also far enough away from the DART for commuters not to be an issue and the road is blocked from Collins Ave in the mornings so people can't use it as a rat run onto the Malahide Rd.

Area is really nice and the facilities in D5 are phenomenal:

Supervalu, Mr Price, Tesco, Lidl within spitting distance......Aldi and The Range just a bit further up the road. Clarehall / Northside / Artaine Castle / Omni a short drive away. Close to cinemas, parks, seaside, St. Annes, golf, airport, DART, any number of buses, schools, GAA clubs, restaurants (Anyone reading this who hasn't been to Taza should make a booking ASAP).........Donnycarney has a lot going for it.

Thanks $hifty, that's a great post and really helpful. As you mention, Dublin 5 has great things going for it and that's what attracted us to it in the first place. Great to hear others view on the area, especially locals.
