Mail, Outlook and gmail account problems

This may not be the correct forum for this query but hopefully someone can help or point me in the right direction.

I use the default Mail in Windows 10. I have a gmail account but thought it would be a good idea to set up an outlook account as I use mainly Wndows.
Now when I send an email from Mail it shows it os going from my gmail account but to the receiver it appears as from XXXXXXXXXX@outlook.com. XXXXXXXXX is a string of letters and numbers and no way relate to my name.
I have gone into Outlook.com and can see this account which is shows is linked to my proper gmail account.
Id there anyway I can change the XXXXXXXXX@outlook.com to my name@outlook.com/ I can find very little help in either Microsoft or Outlook help or in Googling a query either?

This issue only impacts customers using Outlook for Windows. Emails sent via Outlook.com on the web works correctly and emails will be sent with the correct email address.

Windows Mail would be a basic version of Outlook

Thanks Smuggler. Yes that is what is happening. I will avoid Mail for now .

Windows Mail is strip-off of Outlook(office app), but its free.

If willing to use, see "workaround" paragraph of the article.
Problem with that is, when you compose, reply or forward message, by default, it'll go out as your outlook.com account, you will need every time to change "from" and i am not even sure if its an option in Win Mail - not using, never liked it.

Thanks again smuggler. I am not even sure I have an Outlook account. I did try to create one but I am not too sure I succeeded. When I go to Outlook.com I see only the gmail account.
Is there a better client than Mail for use in Windows 10?

On Outlook.com click on "account manager" icon(top right, name abbreviation) and select My profile, here select Contact info. >> List of associated accounts shown

I am using full blown Outlook(office app), however, it come at cost.

For free you could try Mozila's Thunderbird, some other available, but all clients have + and - .
It might take time to get use to and get known all capabilities and shorts and adapt accordingly.

Also, if you like Outlook.com, you can now install it as an app. If you're using Chrome, got to the outlook website, click the chrome menu button, then click "Install Outlook."

It's pretty good, I use it instead of the built in app.

A lot of websites support this functionality now, it's great.
