Land rental?

Hello,

I am a horticulture enthusiast from North County Dublin and I am interested in renting some land for small commercial growing of chili peppers and some rare types of trees. I am looking to rent a small plot from between 0.25 to 1 acre in North County Dublin. I don't mind if the land is over grown as I would be more than happy to clear it for a good deal.

If anyone knows someone who would be interested in letting some land please let me know.

I looked on the likes of daft.ie and property.ie but there doesn't seem to be any listings for agricultural land rental.

Also if anyone has any information or tips on this type of venture it would be much appreciated!

I'd be fairly sure that Fingal Co. Council have allotments

Of course, if you are looking for a secluded spot to grow your "chilli peppers" then it might not be ideal.

1/4 of an acre might be a bit down the back of someone's overgrown garden.

You can only apply for allotments twice a year and they have a bunch of requirements. Plus they can be pretty small.

I'd be able to get two or three 15mx5m polytunnels on a quarter acre I reckon.

And when I say chilies, I genuinely mean chilies 😂 I'd be growing some of the hottest chilies in the world to sell at farmers markets and such. Carolina reapers, habaneros, ghost peppers, pepper X and dragons breath would be some of the types of chilies I'd like to grow 😊

I might even consider asking the council if they have any disused land they could rent to me for cheap.

Council will have land but only let it on a conacre basis.

Unless you are getting one of those mickey-mouse portable tunnels then it probably won't suit you to be renting land to put one up. That'll be the case for most private rentals as well. Your best hope might be to have a friend allow you to use a bit, or else a hippy-type with a big garden or a field out the back of the house.

I'm not sure about going rates, it would depend on the location but would pay up to €1,000

Unfortunately for you hostel type people have all these small plots sown up and they pay considerably more

Oh I thought I saw the average rate to rent an acre of bad land is like 150 euro and good land anywhere from 300-1000 euro, I wonder if that is for the month or the year 🤔

I know a hort set up in Kinnegad that the owner is looking to please out. I'd say that you'd have to keep it organic tho

Gosh that's very expensive.


It might be an idea for the OP to find a location that suits him, call to a few farmers in the locality - they might guide him to a place. Surely €250 an acre should be enough.

Small parcels of land command 1000 an acre for horses

Agriculture land in north Dublin fetches 200-1000 an acre - with the higher figure for vegetables or potatoes

Yeah I'm looking for a long term lease like 5-10 years, and would like to be able to put a 72ft by 20ft commercial polytunnel on the land.
