Warning light has come on for brake pad replacement on 2017 A4. Have full Audi service history but price for brake pad replacement is €185, but quickfit etc are half the price. So what am I getting from Audi that I am not getting from other service shops. And would getting pads done privately affect the Audi fsh? After all I change tyres privately, so what's the difference...

    Front or rear?

Is the price for pads only?

If it has original Audi brake discs I would stick to original pads. They will work better together. If you fit a different set you may get brake squeal. If your changing the discs then maybe get a different brand but then use the matching pads from that brand.

All you are getting at a dealer is a fancy chair to sit on while you wait and plumás from salesmen trying to get you to spend more money.

If they can get away with it and unless you explicitly demand genuine parts, the dealer will be using the cheapest possible pads from the local motor factors and charging you top dollar for them.

Anyway, the genuine Audi and the no-name brand pads may well have been all produced in the same factory in Turkey or China.

Get it done private and stick with the basics and don't mind paying for all the waffle and plumás from the main dealers. They are a consumerist cult.

Dont think that's a terrible price from a main dealer. Be a shame to let Advance or the likes butcher such a new car.

Could go to an independent but a good garage using good quality bits would still want €120-130 for that job I'd say.

That absolutely wont happen. Particularly with a VAG group dealer. It's a good example of absolutely terrible advice.

There's a good chance when you got a quick fit they will tell you you need your discs changed as well

the only think Id be getting done in audi is the oil service (given you car is relatively new), suppose I'd let them top up the windscreen washing fluid too!

Audi would never try and replace discs that had plenty life left in them of course!

    Hi,

Firstly, if you bring it to a main $tealer you will pay more than if you bring it to an independent but having said that they will *only* fit OEM pads. The post above about them fitting the cheapest available simply isn't the case.

Going to an independent you are more likely to have someone fit a cheaper pad. The cost and quality of pads can vary greatly between cheap ones and good ones so its good to know what is being put on, brakes are kinda important you know!! :).

If the car is out of warranty then the most economical route is to probably go to an independent and ask them to quote you for putting Brand X pads on. That way you will get OEM quality fitted but at a lower labour cost compared to a main $tealer.

Audi don't manufacture pads so you can find out what their OEM brand is and just get a set of those, they wont have the little circles on the box but they will be a good bit cheaper as a result :)

    ~LTD
