Looking at a 2016 Opel Insignia 1.6D, 118K kms on the clock.
Irish car, full service history, spotless inside and out with a great spec and fresh NCT.
I read some threads here that haven't anything good to say about the Insignia, is the one I'm looking at prone to trouble?
Anything in particular to watch out for?
Saying that a friend has a 12 reg Insignia for past 5 years, does alot of miles and never had a problem with it.
I do small mileage, about 10K kms a year and plan to get 5 years from it.
    Opinions appreciated, many thanks.

The older 2.0 engine is the one with the big issues.

    That's what I thought, I've no need of a 2 litre anyway.
Is it safe to say the 2016 1.6D is a safer bet, surely Opel resolved the problems with the early models by 2016 ?

Those 1.6 diesel engines have been known to experience timing chain stretching which will result in a new chain or worse case a new engine.

Would that give any warning signs or symptoms that could be picked up on before it failed?
Is it checked as part of routine servicing and can it be adjusted/tightened if needed?
    Thanks...
