Wheel refurbs (images)

So I've got the following alloys and I'm trying to do a budget refurb.

    Mjk2ZTQ0YmRhNzg4MDcxOWMxZDFmYTRjY2JjZTM0Y2INqnVJRC1Ws_xeXWnSzxikaHR0cDovL21lZGlhLmFkc2ltZy5jb20vNjM5NDIxYzI5NmQ2YWJhZjMxMjc0ZTRhYzJjMDBiYjVlZGQwMmQzNmNlNmQ5MDE2ZGVkZWE2MDAxZmNkNTMyNy5qcGd8fHx8fHwzOTN4Mjk0fGh0dHA6Ly93d3cuYWR2ZXJ0cy5pZS9zdGF0aWMvaS93YXRlcm1hcmsucG5nfHx8.jpg

Ideally I would like to do a 2 tone finish or "diamond cut" similar to below

    0000c8af%5C80%5C13%5C2a%5C9f.jpg

I've already prepared the wheels and sanded the scratches etc but can I now just spray them black, sand with a fine grit before polishing them, then clear coat so they end up looking something like this?

Or would I need to tape the dark parts and respray the silver bits?

I'm no expert on it but would you use a primer on them first, then the colour or colours and lastly a laquer. High grit sandpaper in between each coat. Not sure how you'd achieve the two tone finish. Use a filler on any of the kerbing that's bad. I used Lidl for the cans of primer, colour and clear coat.

Ah jasus, you're not meant to do that stuff yourself surely. It'll end in tears.

That's absolutely doable if you take your time with all the prep that's needed.

The real problem will be sanding down the faces, all those lips will have curves on them rather than 90 degree corners. Tricky enough to get them all looking tasty I'd say.

Even without the two tone and diamond cut, there is a huge amount of work involved in the preparation.

Just cleaning them is a lot of work!

I like DIY, but for my wheels I went to the professionals.

Best of luck with the job.

Chrisfix has a vid on alloy repair, it also shows the painting

Very doable on a budget not everyone can lash out 500 plus getting wheels painted.

But why paint them black when the image you showed it's anthracite.

The key is prep clean most definitely masking prime and early masking removal so paint doesn't stick and tear when removing masking

I just don't like the anthracite colour. I'd watch the ChrisFix videos and that was the method I was going to use. Since I just really want to brighten them up and remove the kerbing till I can replace them I've decided to go silver again with a clear coat. Going to start tomorrow unless the storm gets in the way
