I hope someone here can give me some advice..My French girlfriend has been living and working in Ireland since June 2018. She took a contract role for 6 months ans was told last week that they will not be extending it. She is currently searching for a new job but I am wondering if she would be entitled to JSA/JSB if needed between jobs. Shes convinced that she would ineligible as she has been here for slightly more than 1.5 years. I have never dealt with welfare so I have no idea of eligibilty requirements.

Its unlikely shell get jsb having worked for so little a time, JSA is means tested against your income so depending on your income she may or may not be entitled to anything

She will also struggle to fulfill the HRC after being here for less then 2 years.

sorry slightly off topic and hijacking this thread but have posted earlier about this question,

Splinter do you know if I applied for JB on 14/02/2020 got approved on 17/02/2020 first payment in post office tomorrow 26/02/2020

Should i get two full weeks of arrears?

Or one full week and like 4/5 days?

jobseekers is paid in arrears, so youll be paid for 7 or 8

days i believe. If they say its payable from the 17th then this is the day it starts

    Oh okay

So does that not mean if its payable from the 17th, first three days are unpaid, therefore its paid from the 20th?

So I should get my full week plus Thursday, Friday Saturday of last week?
    Guess I'll see tomorrow

If they say its payable from the 17th then it is payable from he 17th, but its paid in arrears so youll get 1 week + 2 days ( which is 2/6th what your weekly payment is). the 17th was a monday and jobseekers weeks run weds to tue

Thanks for that! Do you know why it would be paid one week and two days and not three days?

If she worked in France prior to coming to Ireland, she can ask for her French contributions to be transferred and they can be used with her Irish PRSI. Tell her make a claim anyway even for credits to keep her record up to date.

jobsekers is paid based off a 6 days week not 7. and runs wed to tues, if your claim started monday, they thats only 2 days of that 6 day week, so 2/6th of a week payment, then the ful week from wed to tues

I ended up getting no arrears whatsoever.. Only my flat rate despite it saying its payable from the 17/02/2020..

Will go to the office tomorrow and ask

The first 3 days of the claim are not payable (17/2 to 19/2). So you were paid for 6 days from 20/2 to 26/2 not including the Sunday. Payment is correct.
