A totally corrupt system when the family was there on holiday in 2008 with the lowest paid workers all paying bungs to those higher up the chain, various police forces including religious & tourists sections & government party militia all fleecing the populace & any visitor that they can snare. Virtually everyone out to rip you off at any opportunity.

Got to know some locals who were married to English & German wives, they were ashamed of the way the country was governed. Government officials on supposedly low wages with expensive houses & motors, sending their kids to fee paying schools, giving out contracts to employers using illegal labour from overseas whilst large numbers of local people are unemployed.

Wasn't surprised when there was a revolution years later, followed by a counter revolution with a similar make up to the Mabarak crooks back in charge.

I wouldn't go there again, although the ordinary people were friendly & good natured.

All of the Countrys in that part of the world ( and further afield too ) are run on exactly the same lines. A strong man or Family with complete control, Think Saddam Hussein,, Ghadaffi, Tunisia, Syria. And that kind corruption was what triggered the Arab spring, and the war in Syria. But think for a minute what has been the effects of removing these people..

Of course not. Really people genuinely have no idea what real large scale corruption is like.

Not many 91 year old men are responsible for the deaths of thousands of their fellow citizens

    As though that’s something remarkable.

People choose to follow men like him and to do terrible things to others. He shares responsibility with the rest of them.

He wasn’t special. Just another box of bones now. **** him.

And Iraq was better off with Saddam...now in libya, and same in Iraq ( and Syria too, if Assad had been defeated) you have many Saddam's and Qaddafi's. All of these guys took power because they were strong enough and able to, and were more than prepared to fight and kill to hold on to that power. And now the fight is on for their replacement's. That's the way it is in that part of the world. "Democracy " as we know it, is not part of their mindset.

Better for women, homosexuals, Jews and Catholics.

Not necessarily. In Syria, Assad protected the minorities, true. ( He is from a minority himself ) But in Libya and Iraq?? I doubt it very much. These Country's are strongly Islamic, regardless of who rules them. And since The Shah of Iran was removed, condition's for Women and minority's etc has gotten worse, much worse.
