    Hi,

If you have more than 6 months left on your disk (950 a year) but you intend to sell the car privately, how do you go about requesting a refund? On the motor tax website there's no mention of that. The only scenarios they mention is car being scrapped or exported and the owner being ill.

    Regards,

    Alin

You answered your own question, you can only do it under those circumstances.

    Wait... what?
You mean to tell me that if I sell a car for 500 bucks, the guy is effectively paying me for the remaining tax and getting the car for free? In that case I'm probably better off scrapping it, I'll get my 500 back and maybe some small amount of cash.

If you sell a car that costs €950 a year to tax with more than 6 months tax remaining your going to get more for it then if it had no tax at all, so its not all bad

Better to drive it till the tax runs out. It will be worth roughly the same amount.

    I can't :))))
Single guy with 2 cars? Can't even drive them both since I can't have both on one policy.
I'm actually not single but my gf doesn't live with me and she doesn't have a license, and won't get one probably till end of Sept.
