Land drainage

Looking for a bit of advice on drains, I'll try to explain as best I can.
I was draining a hill to divert water from a site. 4 inch land pipe feeding across the field where it was going to meet an existing 6 inch pipe which takes it away to a stream.

When digging the last bit to join we noticed 2 old stone drains coming to the same point.

Whats the best way to finish this off where all these meet as we cant leave open, just fill with clean stone?

Clean it out well. Put plenty of stone in and what we always do when shoring is put a light layer of straw or hay over the stone before backfilling. Keeps the stone clean. Stops clay from washing down through the stones.

Was there water in the stone drains ? Is there no water in them this time of year them they are likely dead anyway.

If there is water in them we’d join them on in using lengths of drainage pipe and stone them carefully to ensure they are kept flowing.

No there in full flow these days!
Just push pipe up to end of stone drain and fill around with stone?

Build carefully round with stone until your happy it’s a solid job, then carefully round with drainage stone. We don’t do the grass/straw mentioned above.
