It's a real box ticker alright. Flat screen is very appealing too, I'm so over curved screens. Will be interested to see how the cameras stack up against the competition. No UFS 3.0 but still not sure how much real world difference that makes. Probably won't be available until May/June if it's same release schedule as the Xperia 1. Might look into picking it up Autumn/Winter when it's more reasonably priced.

    3,840 x 1,644

That's not 4k. At least 2160 pixels are required on the smallest axis.

it's more like Quad HD+ (but not as much of a plus as the dell xps 15 with 1800 pixels).

    Yeah May/June release alright.
It looks like a very good phone alright, will be interesting to see what the camera samples are like.
Not sure what irish network will be selling the phone though.

Might keep an eye on this. Now 2 years with an XZ2 so due an upgrade on Vodafone. Was considering a Pixel 4 but hearing that the battery is poor. There's no big rush anyway, the XZ2 is still working perfectly.
Sony have kind of fallen off the radar with the networks at the moment. Vodafone don't have any Sony phones in their range at the minute.

    This too shall pass.

I'm just hoping the fingerprint scanner is better this time round. I had an Xperia 5 for a few days and returned it due to the absolutely abysmal scanner. My Xz2, xz premium, xz1 were flawless.

Sony usually have ****ty battery capacity.
Nothing changes! 4000mAh is nothing special.

My Xperia 10 has probably the best battery endurance of any Android I've had, getting up to what I was getting in the Symbian days; and that's sub 3000mAh. They seem to have really nailed down background idle battery use compared to other vendors - and considering my main phone is an Androidone Nokia there isn't much to modify!

What's with the bizarre screen dimensions?

They've been doing 21:9 since the xperia 1 last year. I haven't used it myself but supposedly being narrowed it makes it easier to hold and you can fit more on the screen vertically so well suited to feed based stuff like instragram, twitter etc.
This is a good video explaining it

OK, Contract now finished with Vodafone and I'm now on 30 day rolling. This phone isn't out yet but so I've still been stewing over it. Thanks to still having a job but nowhere to go my bank balance has crept up enough that I could take a plunge and buy without a new contract, but the tall thing is bugging me. I go out running and I need my phone with me so that the fitbit versa 2 has a GPS lock and I have some spotify music or podcasts to listen to on my runs. I really can't see there being much of a market for armbands for phones of this particular size.
The Xperia 5 is of similar dimensions to my current phone (the XZ2) but doesn't have wireless charging so I have to weigh up how much would I miss a feature like that. I'm certain I don't want a front display with a notch or a hole for the front camera, so I suppose it comes down to this, the Xperia 5 or the Pixel 4.
Thank goodness the XZ2 is still going strong.

    This too shall pass.

I picked up a nearly new Xperia 1 last week. I'm absolutely loving it so far. I was a bit hesitant about the screen aspect but I find it fantastic now. The mark 2 will basically be the same size but with a headphone jack, better cameras and a bigger battery.

If size is important then might be best to wait for the rumoured Xperia 5 mk2 which will supposedly just be a smaller Xperia 1 mk2. You're talking about possibly waiting until late 2020 early 2021 though

Thanks for the advice. If a mark 2 of the 5 is still a year out I may as well go for the Mark 1 for the year and see when the Mark 2 comes out if I can get it on contract.
Mad to think 2 years ago the XZ2 was Sony's big main flagship and now it counts as a compact size phone.

    This too shall pass.
