2015 Nissan Leaf beeping five times after locking?

    Hey guys,

I just bought a 2nd hand Nissan Leaf (2015). I’ve notice when locking it beeps 5 times. Not rapidly like when you leave your keys in the car or when you leave a door open. These are 5 singular beeps.

Asked another Leaf owner who was charging her car beside me and she had never heard it. I only replaced the two key batteries so it’s not that either. If anyone can shed some light on this I’d appreciate it. Thanks,

    Rigardo

    This is a weird issue.
I got it occasionally on my old leaf.

Sometimes it’s when you’ve left your phone in the car, sometimes when the ignition is still on and sometimes you get out and lock so quick that the car hasn’t shut itself down properly.

You’ll get more answers if a mod moves this to the EV forum.

When you are closing the door, are you pressing the little button on the handle at the same time? Try closing, and make sure not to touch the button. Might work!

Definitely not pressing both at the same time. That said, it beeps five times whether it’s locked with remote or with the button. I’m wondering if it’s something in the settings like a reminder to plug it in. I’m going to call someone in Nissan tomorrow. It’s very annoying so will post back. Thanks guys

Have you a door ajar? Or the boot?

Is there another key in the car when you are locking it?

Boot is closed tight unless there’s an issue with the sensor. That said, I think it just beeps 3 times when there’s a door open. See attached vid for the beeping. It’s coming from the rear of the car which is also different from the door beeping.

This is from the leaf handbook
When pushing the request switch or the button on the Intelligent Key to lock the door:
The outside chime sounds for a few seconds.

The Intelligent Key is inside the vehicle or a cargo area.Carry the Intelligent Key with you.

have a good check in the car. the previous owner may have left a key in there somewhere.

Thanks for the reply. It crossed my mind but when you zap to lock a key in the car it makes a much more rapid beeping noise.

The beeping you can hear in the video is not dissimilar to the beeping you get when a door is left open but the car only beeps 3 times for that and it’s a different beeping sound. The beeping I’m hearing is coming from the rear of the car. Going to call a Nissan dealer again tomorrow as it's really starting to bug me now.

Driving me mad so it is 🀪

Is there an aftermarket alarm fitted to the car?

Is there rear parking sensors fitted to the bumper?

    This is none of these.
It’s a specific tone to the leaf.

As I said OP, ask a mod to move to the EV forum. Your not the first car this has happened to.

Do you turn everything off prior to exiting the car?
    ignition,
    Lights
    Fog lights?

Ive had two of those Leafs, and never heard that tone of beep, plenty of beeps, but not that one. The beeps you hear when you try and lock with a door ajar / or when you leave keys in it are very different.

I'm confident I'm turning everything off properly. The ignition is just a single press and everything turns off. Settings for charge timer, charger lock and pre heat timer (from memory) are summarised on the dash screen.

It has auto lights which I have set to auto and I've double checked the fog lights are in the off position. Thanks for trouble shooting all the same

I went to the car this morning, opened it then locked it again. NO BEEPING. Drove to work then locked it. IT BEEPED. Just went over to the car after being parked for the day, opened & locked it. NO BEEPING!!!

I'm trying to work out a pattern. I'm going to test this further in case it's just been a coincidence but, if this happens again, it could have something to do with how it's been parked.

It really doesn't make any sense. I've turned off the car, waited a good minute before locking, but it still beeps five times. Whatever about having to wait a few seconds for everything to shut down, everything should be off well before minutes time.

Going to check what happens when I get home. May pop out to the car after an hour and see if it still does it. I'm determined to get to the bottom of the phantom beeping!!!

Sorry for the late reply. No rear sensors, though under the circumstances they wouldn’t come into play. A dickie after market alarm could be a possible suspect but I’ll have to get under the bonnet tomorrow to check. I’d be even more suspect if beeping was coming from the front but it seems to be coming from the back.

    Thanks for helping

I was hoping that there were sensors wired into the indicators instead of the reverse light!

Let us know how you get on.
