Bought a new LG TV. Cannot connect to satellite TV

    Hi all

Just for a new LG TV, which comes with a satellite dish input.

I have tried to connect it directly into the dish, but I cannot tune any channels. I have tried connecting to ASTRA 28 2E but there is no reception.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

What dish do you have. Is it a sky dish?

    Was there reception there before?

Oh yeah, meant to say, you’re better off setting the location as the uk, so you can use the Freeview EPG.

If the dish was used for Sky Q the LNB on the dish may not be suitable.

Freeview is the terrestrial service. You mean FreeSat

The sat dish was already on the roof when we moved into the house. I have attached a picture. It is not a sky one

There was reception before yes. We tried a set-up sat box a few years ago and it worked.

    Thanks

apparently, it is a sky dish. So, that means I cannot use it to go straight to the TV?

    cheers

If you haven't moved the dish and it worked before, double check all your connections. It doesn't matter that it was used for sky (same direction but hopefully the LNB is ok to receive).

Reset TV to factory and set up using a UK postcode. It should pull all the info for Freesat with the channels.

For Soarview, you'll need a standard aerial which is in a region that can receive it from your local DTT mast. When setting it up, it'll get the channels and place them in the 800s - you'll have to reorder them to suit your preferred order.

Can you get another satellite box to see if it's still working? The LNB looks fairly corroded in the picture, IIRC LNBs don't like being powered off for long periods.

yes, that would be the ideal test

OP the collar on the lnb is broke which means the LNB is off skew . if you look at this image of your dish you will see where i marked it for you. The LNB is an old Zinwell quad lnb and that type haven't been used in years so its probably better to replace the Lnb .

Would he be better off replacing dish and lnb and f connectors judging on how old it is.

The dish doesn't look too bad to be honest. You'd need a new collar bracket, but likely get a new LNB while you're at it too. The newer LNBs are 40mm diameter so just make sure the collar is suited to the sky dish (I think you'll be asking for a mk.4 bracket).

Could you try a cable tie on that collar first before buying any thing new?

I can imagine f connectors are possibly seized on been that old and mine was 10 years up and that might be the same age.

Yes, not an expensive thing to do either. Just don't move the dish when doing it otherwise you'll need a meter to fine tune the dish.
