Was out for my daily stroll and I see advertising for a coffee shop located inside my local NTC centre. I'm a bit annoyed about that. Surely that is state land and represents unfair competition to other business's around.

The nct is not government owned, it's a private business.

I don't see any issue with competition unless your centre is within 2 mins walk of another establishment. Normally people do not leave the centre at all during their test so it is a facility that can be availed of that otherwise wouldn't be rather than a drain on local demand.

The one I'm on about is along the Greenhills roads in Tallaght. 4 direct competitors within a 2 minute walk by my count. It's part of a large industrial estate so these other business's rely on regular trade more than passing.

The bigger issue for me is people having to get their car tested and a fcukin fraud of an insurance company refusing to offer it cover because of the age of the vehicle.
That’s the sort of paddywhackery that boils my p1ss.
Heads should roll over that type of gombyism.
Only in a country as corrupt as good old Ireland would that type of sh1te hawking go on and they let go with it.

Not a thing wrong with competition anyway.

They are all private businesses. Why were the 3 others allowed to open when there was already 1 locally? By your logic there should only be 1 provider of a product within walking distance or is it only the business setup in the NCT centre that you are complaining about?

Then I'm a little less annoyed. I assumed anything state related would be state land.

The only business that was tendered out for by our government was for NCT tests. They are on thin ice if they try and push this more. What's next? Could be anything.

I think your looking for issues that don’t exist, if your genuinely annoyed about it wait till someone tells you what’s in the dail.

Why? Were the other cafes denied access to set up business in the NTC centre previously? Probably nobody thought to ask until this crowd did it. The only problem is if favoritism was shown, but somehow I suspect it was just plain stupidity. A lot of people just make assumptions thinking that they can't or will be refused, and don't ask.

last year I had to go to Ballymun for my nct- godforesaken location lined with itinerants in the driveway & the usual dirt on the side of an m50 roundabout. At stupid o clock in the driving rain -behold -there was a small portable coffee wagon outside battling all weather, a lovely guy serving great coffee & tayto & kitkats. Well welcome & great coffee. Now if the nct would only clean their toilets the way they expect the inside of my car to be clean.,,

I don't see the issue at all.
Some coffee shop owner is working hard to increase his business.
Wouldn't hurt if there were community notice boards there, but I imagine a lot of wall space for notices should be more focused on motor maintenance/safety.

Probably would help to show videos of how people should drive properly on motorways, roundabouts, turn lights on in the rain etc.... public safety vids.

I’d rather not be mindlessly msnsplained at while trapped in an nct office. It is not a driving test centre and people are angry and stressed out enough as it is. .As for ‘community notices’-what - baby yoga and electricians? Get a grip.

    Just a disgusting, sexist term.

Oh its the gubberment, lets attack it just because... er, er, er, er, er,

because, er, well, its the gubberment, the gubberment.

Even when its not the gubberment

BTW, the airport is owned by the gubberment, as are most of the hospitals and all the train stations and many visitor attractions including dublin zoo.

So, by your gubberment not be involved in allowing a coffee shop on their land, there will be hundreds of coffee shops and retail outlets that woudl have to close under your rule.

Sounds something Sinn Fein would come up with

NCT / Applus is a private company that owns/leases its own private buildings and once it conforms to planning, they can do whatever they like as long as they complete their testing obligations.

    Just a disgusting, sexist term.

a well recognised phenoma because of the high frequency of it happening. Should be slapped out of existence and made drink expressos until their brains finally come to life.

Jasus that would give you a great little lift, and not too many of them around nct centers these days.

Angry and stressed out in an NCT centre? Why?

Wait until the OP visits a museum and sees that they have restaurants, coffee and gift shops.
