Halfords competitive pricing

I was searching for a battery today for my van and after scouring all the euro carp parts, micks garage, battery world, gsf websites I decided to have a quick check on halfords and was pleasantly surprised they were able to supply a yuasa 5 year guaranteed battery at near the same price as the cheapest of cheap batteries, like lion from eurocarparts.
At the same time I was searching for oil which I also found cheaper for the 507.00 ve stuff than anywhere else. Other places were charging 80 and 90 for 4 litres of Castrol edge they were 56.
Is this a new pricing structure from halfords? as they were always the most expensive in the past.
Has anyone else found the same to be true?

They still screw you on the less common items.

Only thing I buy in Halfords is motor oil when they come up discounted. Everything else in there is sky high. Tool prices are outrageous lol

Maybe I just got lucky with the battery and oil. I've always been the same and wouldn't buy anything off them but I was wondering have they changed their business model recently.

There’s definitely less of a gap between the trade card price and the retail price.
They have massively increased bulb prices in the last 6 months.

Noticed that myself lately, went to grab a bulb 2 weeks ago and thought it was very expensive but said at least I'll get a good bit off with trade card, wasn't impressed with the discount either.

Halfords love to push their fitting service so maybe they're making the likes of batteries competitive so they can screw you with the fitting.

I find bulbs, wipers and other everyday items are usually more expensive than other places for example a Tax/NCT/Insurance disc holder is €7.20 a pretty much identical one can be got in Dealz for €1.50. I suppose you are paying for convenience and regularly I've hit them on a Sunday for stuff that can't be got anywhere else.
