What 5 EV could you live with if you need 5 or more decent seats.

By that I mean that of you regularly carry 5 or more that are bigger kids or teens, what EV would you get, or did you get.

As for budget how about all budgets.

Or three very small kids, where you really need the space for baby seats/boosters. If they were teens, I'd tell them to get over it and stop shoving each other. The Model X is probably the ideal (maybe only) solution at the moment, but that ain't happening. I'm stuck with Sharan for the time being. It's one area of the market where EVs currently sorely lack.

Edit to add: I'm really surprised at the lack of talk of the Model Y on here, I can see it taking a massive amount of 3 sales eventually.

Some folks have the lost the will to live while waiting years for delivery of their model 3, we have learnt our lesson and will only get hyped up once they land and are available :D

Model X, Model s is wide boy, ENV200 evalia (7 seater or 5), etron, EQC (I have not seen in the flesh), a leaf even is relatively generous in the back

    Something for all budgets there.

You could throw the I-PACE in the mix too.

    Maybe even the eNiro

I Pace is an extremely compact sized car. Most of the electric SUV are compact in size, I think that just because they sit a bit higher people assume they're larger in size. Most are golf sized in the back.

I got the impression some are smaller than golf in the back.

From the photos I've seen, the third row seats in the Y look to have very little leg room. If you could manage to figure out how to get a small child into that row, they'd probably fit but I doubt a teenager or adult would want to go there for very long. I could be wrong but I've a feeling the Model Y will be mostly be sold to people for whom the 3 is big enough but they want the increased ride height.

Third row seems typical for suvs alright. Grand for small kids and to get you out of a bind. Reports seem to indicate that the second row is much improved in terms of room. Also, 4 times the carrying capacity of the Model 3 is nothing to be sneezed at.

But yeah, I agree , it's the ride height that will really sell it . Personally I don't want to go back to a car again. It's funny, I remember arguing with the father in law when I got my Discovery. He said that'd I never go back to a car, that you'd get so used to the ride height. Bollox I told him, pointing all the numerous efficiency, safety, cost advantages. And now I hate a low driving position. I'm driving a Passat PHEV for the past two days, and while it's a nice drive I just want the higher position. I should mention my back is a wreck though.

Model X, 6 seater, you can fit 2 adults in the rear row. The 2 seater middle row really opens up the rear row, more air/light/space and more legroom. In 6-seat config, you've still got storage in the frunk as well as rear boot space, which has a lot of depth. Rear row seats are independent, so you can do a 5-seat config if you still needed more storage space in the back.

Well I would find it hard to change from a 5+2 MPV to something less flexible. I use a like a van a lot.

When our MPV was bought we didn't do much mileage so high running costs weren't an issue. But as everyone in the family downsizes to one vehicle and usually smaller, we seem to have been come the taxi of choice for lifts across the family, and our running costs on an older petrol are becoming an issue. I'm tempted to get something smaller to remove ourselves as an option for lifts. But that might quite limiting for ourselves. Or get something cheaper to run like an EV, I'll probably do that regardless.

But if you carry a lot of bulky things (bikes, walkers, wheelchairs) and 5 people your options get limited. I also use a small trailer rarely.

ENV 200 should have the space in 5 seat config for a chair.

My leaf had more room in the back than my golf.

I think a Ford Mustang Mach E will be worth considering, when it comes out later and no the year / early next year. Prices aren’t fixed yet but they are (broadly) in UK and US. Expect to be cheaper than Model X and I-Pace, probably even a bit cheaper than Model Y.

As some others have commented, it’s probably another small SUV crossover, but I’ve seen a few videos and back room and boot space aren’t that stingy. I know I’ll be keeping a close eye (affording it is another story).

Good to know. I was referring to the SUV EVs but I haven't lived with one to really know.
